Transitions

What are some of the biggest transitions you’ve navigated in your leadership?

Here are some of mine:

• Being the first and/or only person with my identity in a new environment;
• A rocky and vulnerable start to a new role;
• A disruptive and vulnerable close to an old role;
• Having my first baby (𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘪𝘨 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘮𝘰𝘮);
• Having my second baby (𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦-𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦/𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦/𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦);
• Dealing with loss (𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘧);
• Launching a new endeavor (𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘱);
• Making difficult decisions (𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘮–𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭);
• Reckoning with moments of crisis (𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴);

Transitions can feel tumultuous and downright shocking at times. It can be easy to resist them, to resent them, or to refuse to recognize them.

Yet, I’ve come to find that transitions can also be sources of powerful transformation.

Transitions create an opening to something new that can accelerate a different path. They can be fertile ground for breakthroughs to next levels of leadership and growth if we can allow, accept, and alter our relationship to the adversity we might be experiencing within them.

If you are navigating a transition, you are not alone. Your experience is valid, important, and it truly matters.

During my times of transition, I have been supported by many caring and compassionate coaches who held space for me to explore my experiences, expand my leadership, and live a more liberated life. I will forever be grateful to these coaches for helping me unlock parts of myself that were ready to be fully expressed.
