Good enough for now

What do you do when you have your website URL on your business card, but you don’t have a website? Turns out…you learn how to make a website!

I’ve had a goal to build a website for Piñata Possible for a few months, but I kept finding myself coming up with really convenient reasons to delay publishing it. I faced a lot of resistance coming from within myself, stemming from pressure and expectations to create something “good.”

A dear friend of mine, Rosy Khalife, gave me sage advice that instead of focusing on what’s “good,” place attention on what’s “good enough for now.” Taking courageous action in the now is part of what can accelerate progress toward future goals.

Anne Lamott, in her lovely book, Bird by Bird, refers to the value of creating a “shitty first draft” as a key part of the writing and creative process. It takes vulnerability to create something from nothing, yet the first draft is what makes possible the second and subsequent drafts.

I’m delighted to now have a first draft of my website to share at www.pinatapossible.com.

Do I have hopes of improving and refining it over time? Of course, however, I’m grateful now for what this first version of the website represents as a symbolic start of a new journey. That, to me, is worth savoring and celebrating. After all, revisions can only happen if there is first a vision that provides the foundation from which to build.

Even if the first drafts or first attempts at our goals feel rough, they are valuable leap points that are signs of our courage to try.
